Teddy West has achieved a major milestone with his latest album, “Life After Death,” which has gone gold. This is a significant achievement for the Botswanan rapper, making him the only alternative hip hop artist from the country to reach this feat in 2023.

“Life After Death” is Teddy West’s second studio album, following the success of his previous projects like “Yours Faithfully” and “Spitting Cobra” (which appeared on the Collabo Album “Kings of Bechuanaland“). He celebrated the album’s gold status on his Instagram story, where he revealed that it has surpassed 16 million all-time streams.

The album’s popularity is evident in its achievements. It peaked at number 1 on the Top Albums chart in Botswana on Apple Music and received two nominations at the Yarona FM Awards. Its success follows the footsteps of Teddy West’s previous project, “Kings 1,” a triple-disc album by the group Kings of Bechuanaland (comprising Teddy West, Shaba Stele, and Abitola) which went gold within months of its release. The sales of “Kings 1” were boosted by a unique collaboration with Lifestyle Shisanyama, where customers received a meal with the album purchase.

“Life After Death” features guest appearances from a range of talented artists, including Shaba Stele, Sasa Klaas, Abitola, Dintleonthetrack, Trill Trp, Lawd Isco, Jack Monster, Dr. Dasu, ey brizzy, zalifa, and Gavin Ubuntu. This collaboration of diverse talents has contributed to the album’s rich soundscape and widespread appeal.

The album’s popularity extends beyond Botswana. It has garnered over 114,000 streams on Boomplay and charted at number 6 on the platform’s top most played international songs. This international recognition further solidifies Teddy West’s position as a rising star in the global hip hop scene.

Teddy West’s journey to gold with “Life After Death” wasn’t without its challenges. He revealed that he faced eviction while working on the album, causing a delay in its release. However, he persevered through these obstacles and emerged victorious, a testament to his dedication and resilience.
